Why THRIVE is important to Audrey: Thrive is an opportunity to grow and receive support to keep working hard even when things do not go as planned. With Distance Learning, I felt alone and isolated. I wanted to find something to bring us together outside of the classroom. We started General Connection and when I heard of Thrive, I knew it was the direction we needed to go. Thrive has given me something to look forward to; the chance to connect and help my peers. With my fellow leaders, I believe that we will accomplish great things and learn so much together on how to positively support one another. I have so much pride about this group and I believe that together we can truly make a difference at Shafter High.
Why THRIVE is important to Yesenia: "Thrive is important to me because it allows me to seize the opportunity to help others in situations where they may feel alone or a little down. I believe that you can only truly feel fulfilled if you have lived a life of service; and there is no greater satisfaction than watching the success of others that you believed in. I want to make, in the least, a dent in the amount of people hurting in the world. We all start from somewhere, it is a long road, but I am super excited to start my way down it."
Why THRIVE is important to Jose:It is my moral obligation to be doing this. I have been waiting and waiting for the opportunity to reach those who needed my help for a while. It was a conviction for me. I knew deep down in my heart, mind, and soul that I had to do something, anything that I can do for the people I care about. The next thing I knew, a door opened for me. “THRIVE;” a time for encouragement and security. A time when any student can join the four of us and not have to face the many struggles of life and hardships alone. Where we can meet together and support one another like one big happy family. Trust me. Audrey, Anthony, Yesenia, and I want to do whatever we can as THRIVE leaders to build you up. THRIVE is a time where students can receive the support they need to do better academically, emotionally, socially, physically, and spiritually. One wise man once told me a quote he once heard, “If you want to walk fast, walk alone; if you want to walk far, walk together.” Let's do this together.
Why THRIVE is important to Anthony:“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive,” - Dalai Lama. There are times when self-pride and selfishness blinds us from truly understanding what genuine happiness is. Having an everyday connection with people, showing love, and having compassion is what I live off of! THRIVE is the very essence of connecting with people on a different level, and engaging in valuable friendships that will enlighten you. All it takes is one friend to motivate you and push you forward, and all four THRIVE leaders are always here for you during these hard times, hindering the necessity of a real connection with other people. We will all grow, improve, survive, and celebrate together!
