Shafter High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) competed in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies contest.
More than 50 Shafter High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) members traveled to Independence High School on November 14 to compete in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies contest.
The contest is held every year to introduce students to their first FFA competition, emphasize the purpose of meetings and duties of officers, teach them how to conduct efficient meetings, as well as build public speaking and communication skills.
Shafter had 9 teams compete in this public speaking contest, and had two high individuals and the 2nd place Open gold team. Members of the second place open gold team were Kekoa Witcher, Victoria Darling, Michael Vander Poel, Alexis Pickering, Carolina Ortega, and Julie Portillo. Nallely Hermosillo was the outstanding sentinel in the officer division and Eva Lopez was the outstanding treasurer of the Open Blue Division.
