Shafter Students Participate in the Kern County Honor Band

Please join me in congratulating our three band students who performed in the Kern County Honor Band "Grand Night for Music" Concert last night at Rabobank Arena: Bryant Flores (tuba, 9th grade), Travis Poston (tenor saxophone 11th grade), and Oscar Mata (baritone saxophone 11th grade). These students were selected out of hundreds of students throughout Kern County who auditioned back in December, and they performed college level music under the direction of Dr. Leo Sakomoto from CSUB.

Also, please wish the winter drumline and colorguard students luck in their first competition at Independence High School. Drumline competes in the Senior A division at 10:19am, and Color Guard competes in Regional A division at 5:35 pm. Tickets are usually $10

Geek Streak

The 4th annual Geek Streak. This year’s theme was Star Wars. Over 140 people (and a dog or 2) came out to run the annual 5K fundraiser. All the money raised goes to help defer the cost of the AP exams. 1st through 3rd place winners in the Male 14-19 category were: Enso Valle, Jose Felix, & Rolando Robles. 1st through 3rd place winners in the Female 14-19 category were: Analyssa Torres, Judyth Pelayo, & Anayeli Mejia. The winner for the Best Star Wars costume was Moises Amparo.
