Shafter Ag Student's Trip to the Capitol
Tuesday, March 20th, was National Ag Day. To help celebrate National Ag Week 32 students from the Shafter Ag Department traveled to the capitol building in Sacramento. Students had the opportunity to tour the capitol as well as view the agricultural booths on the front steps of the capitol building as part of our own "California Ag Day". Students were able to interact with fellow agriculturalists as well as communicate with legislatures that were attending the event.
As California is the top producer of a variety of commodities Ag Day showcases and provides a time for agricultural education to take place outside of the school setting. This year's theme was "Climate-smart, California Grown", which honors the environmental stewardship and innovation of our state's agriculturalists.
The students enjoyed this opportunity to see the different opportunities in California and how they can affect change on a statewide scale. For many, this was their first time visiting the capitol and even riding a train. The students greatly appreciated the opportunity to attend and are excited by the prospect of going next year.
